The Second Chakra

According to Swami Beyondananda, the great yogi from Muskogee,
'Tantra' is derived from the sanskrit "tantrum" which is how Krishna first attracted God's attention.
Practising tantrum yoga he held his breath until he turned blue thus uniting forever with the infinite.
Also known as the yoga of passion and desire, Tantra has a very bad name in certain circles because of its relationship to sects. In fact, tantra is not about sects or sex, it is about 'the harmonious weaving of forces' although there is not a tantra teacher west of the Ganges that will admit this because weaving seldom makes a prophet and sects sell.
The tantric path is said to be littered with the bones of saints. There are rigors on this short path to enlightenment.
It is one thing to be a saint on a mountain and quite another to be a saint in Las Vegas.
A tantra teacher will eventually reccommend that her pupils get a dose of the most smouldering voluptuous desire-kindling being they can find to partner with, but not for the purposes which you may be imagining.
The idea is to stir up the pssions to just below the boil and at the point right before one is spinning out of control
to grasp the energies with previously honed meditative skills.
Then allow the force of animal passion to act as a rocket fuel for your spiritual nature.
Sounds uncomfortable? It's not what you will find in tantra workshops which generally focus on the business of
giving westerners permission to enjoy sex without guilt or inhibition.
These will offer breathing techniques, intimacy excercises, relationshit management
and numerous methods for uncovering our natural sexuality.
After several thousand years of reproducing in sex negative cultures,
our guilt and shame ridden species has a place for such work.
We swear with sex. Perhaps that is why our civilization is f...ed no I mean it sucks ...I mean ... think about it.
This is how we refer to the energy which creates life.
It really could be useful if we were to reestablish some cultural respect for the process.
Imagine if teenage boys understood what they were dealing with when all this force began to dominate them
and they were taught healthy ways of dealing with it.
Imagine if young girls were taught to honor their sexuality and to share in safe and healthy ways
with support from family and teachers.
Imagine if the word 'fuck' was a poetic expression and didn't carry the fear of death and damnation on its shoulders. Imagine if I could print this word in a paper and nobody called up to complain.

So what is Tantra? All of the above and a lot more.
It will take generations to sort it out.
In the meantime enjoy your body while you have one - and care for it.
I've heard that the human body is a temple, but it's also an amusement park
so long as we keep it in working order.
If I were God,
I'd be just as happy being worshipped from a roller coaster as from a wooden pew - wouldn't you?
