The Sacred Clowns speak the opening monologue...

and drink a toast 'to the ones not yet born...'

Act I

 Midnight, September 10th 2000

A young man, Michael is strolling through the streets of New York. With a bottle of champagne in one hand and a bunch of flowers in the other,, Michael is bound for the dating game. He sings: The Streets of New York…. We see the vitality of NY at night.  As he comes to Maya's door and is about to knock, a unique, pregnant bag lady

(Mother Gaia ~ in disguise) comes before him and speaks A Poem by Hafiz, (Transl... By Daniel Landinsky) The demon (masked yet dressed for Wall Street) looks on, unnoticed, as does Pan, Gaia's consort who sings I'm Pan the Man.

Michael, perplexed is buzzed up to the boudoir where Maya, a gorgeous young woman, evolves through song ~ transforming herself from a feminist into a seductress  and back again during a song: Feminine Dilemma.

Fascinated, he follows her as she dances out to the penthouse  roof  where a shimmering silver tribe of intergalactic gypsies dance ~

a flamenco hymn honoring the  The Goddess as the Moon.

The women of the tribe surround Maya as the Sacred Clowns speak of the female moon mysteries. The women enact a ritual and sing: Goddesspell

Maya is transformed and sings to Michael about honoring the Goddess in woman.

The Sacred Clown speaks of Honor and Love and the importance of the female principle
in spiritual and worldly matters.  Deeply affected and somewhat dazed, Michael returns to the street

and listens, along with a growing group of people on the street
to the radical songs of  Gaia, still dressed as a bag lady….. She and Pan sing about the homeless in the song:  Please Stay With Me,

And as a growing group of teens surround her,  she and Pan sing Poor Little Rich Kid

By this time the police arrive and a dance occurs as the kids withdraw and the police move forward. Nearby the Demon lurks in his blackened limo. All you see is two red lasered eyes piercing through the front windshield. In a strobe lit, heavy metal, cosmos/orchestral instrumental Gaia is arrested and thrown into jail.  Pan fights desperately but is unable to free her. Alone in a cell she goes into labor and gives birth.  The jailers enter and take her baby away.  They hand it, in a cradle to a blindfolded judge.  The judge has a mallet raised and slowly it is coming down ~ from a suspended height above the cradle ~ The clowns in a roguish Cirque de Soleil acrobatic romp manage to push the cradle (with just their toes showing from another dimension)  past the judge’s blind aim and on it glides into the child protection system.

End of Act 1

Act II ~ The Falling - One year later

September 10 2001, sometime after Midnight, New York City

Scene 1

Back in Maya's boudoir, things have become more cozy and home-like. The cosmic cradle (the human child of Gaia) is at the head of the bed.
Michael and Maya are in bed sharing a very conscious form of tantric bliss, Maya sings of how Michael’s love assists her in awakening the Goddess within herself in the song: I Return.

Michael holds her and as they sleep, the Sacred Clowns introduce Shameless, who dances in the archetypal mirror. She represents Heyoka or trickster energy: she is an archetype of untamed erotica: Shameless sings the song White Tyger.
Michael awakens into the dream mirror aroused.

Maya awakens and goes into a jealous rage. She tears off her pretty nightgown revealing a dominatrix costume.  Michael at first intimidated rises in oppositional rage.

They sing a duet: ~Anima City  during which they fight over the cradle. Dawn comes through windows in the shadow of the Towers.

Michael wrestles the child away and leaves. Maya throws herself, with a horrifying shriek to the ground.

Through windows we see the Towers fall. Chaos whirls.

Video images superimpose with the visage of the demon wearing many masks . Gradually voices of children sing in pure soprano tones as images of children from many cultures merge into each other .

Song ~ The Human Child.

Gaia is arrested again. The Demon flies overhead in a totally blackened helicopter...

Scene 3: City Jail.

Gaia sings Mother’s Cry

.

Maya is pushed into the cell - Drunk and disorderly, she stumbles, her head landing on Gaia’s lap. Drugged, self-destructive and in misery…. she listens as Gaia sings: Oh Sister

calling on women to awaken and reclaim their place in the cosmic order of things. Maya is drawn out of her self-pity and together they are empowered.  The jail doors open and they are drawn out to where Pan waits, smiling. He drives them off into a wild land where the gypsy tribe greets them.

The Demon follows in a black van.

Scene 4:
The tribe gives Gaia the honor due to the Earth Mother. Her rags fall away revealing her true nature.

Maya is taken to an altar-like bed preparing her for an initiation.  As she sleeps, Michael arrives, led by one of the gypsies.  He is exhausted and covered in concrete dust. The child is in his arms. Michael sings Interesting How they Say Gaia joins the song although he is not aware of her presence. A young girl from the tribe takes the child gently from him while others lay him down on another initiation bed.  The hearts of Michael and Maya having been broken are opened to forgiveness as they sleep.

At this point the Demon enters. Obvious now as the personification of evil he strolls in , wearing one of his many masks.

Gaia confronts him, the tribe surrounds him and sings Demon Deity,

an exorcism supported by rattles, drums and medicine chants sung by the tribe. As a video backdrop reveals the economic evils  behind the falling of the towers, the hunger of most of humanity and the loss of natural balance on earth, the Demon's masks begin to fall away.  By the last verse he is revealed and his is influence over the affairs of the earth comes to an end...the earth splits open and Pan stands looking at him - he flickers his eye and brow almost imperceptibly as the Demon falls into the abyss.

The Sacred Clown raps whimsically about strengthening the foundations of creation and the path to the holy grail ~ leading the audience in a song of Forgiveness

and redemption...

A hypnotic induction and a ritual of forgiveness occur which includes the whole cast and audience.
The tribe sit around a circle of fire.

In the center is the cauldron where the original audience ticket stubs are ignited with sage.
The audience is invited to walk the initiation path through fire, water, wind and earth.

The cast sings: Listen to the Heavenly

 Heaven On Earth

.
